అవసరమా? కోరికా?
విలాసవంతమైన జీవితాన్ని జీవించే ఒక రాజు ఉండేవాడు. తన జీవితంలో ఆ రాజు సంతోషం లేదా సంతృప్తి చెందలేకపోయాడు. ఒకరోజు తన సేవకుడు ఆనందంగా పాటలు పాడుతూ పని చేయడం చూశాడు. ఆ రాజు తన సేవకుడు ఎలా సంతోషంగా జీవుస్తున్నాడో అడిగి తెలుసుకున్నాడు. ఆ సేవకుడు ఇలా సమాధానమిచ్చాడు, "నేను సేవకుడిని తప్ప మరొకటి కాదు, నా కుటుంబానికి నాకు మించిన అవసరతలు లేవు ,ఉండడానికి ఇల్లు కడుపు నిండా భోజనం ఉంది" అని
సెలవిచ్చాడు.
ఆ సమాధానంతో రాజు ఆశ్చర్యపోయాడు. ఆ రాత్రి తన సేవకుడిని పరీక్షిస్తూ, రాజు రహస్యంగా 99 బంగారు నాణాల సంచిని తన సేవకుడి గుమ్మం వద్ద వదలమని తన పనివారిని ఆదేశించాడు. గుమ్మము వద్ద సంచిని చూసిన ఆ సేవకుడు తన ఇంట్లోకి తీసుకెళ్లాడు. ఆ సంచిని తెరిచి ఆశ్చర్యపోయిన అతడు, వాటిని లెక్కించడం ప్రారంభించాడు. 99 నాణేలే ఉన్నాయని నిర్ధారించుకొని, “ఆ ఒక్క బంగారు నాణెం ఏమైయ్యుంటుంది? ఖచ్చితంగా, ఎవరూ 99 నాణాలను వదిలిపెట్టరే! ” అనుకొని, తనకు వీలైన ప్రతిచోటా వెతికాడు, చివరి ఆ ఒక్క నాణెం దొరకలేకపోయింది. చివరగా, నిరాశతో అలసిపోయిన అతడు ఆ ఒక్క బంగారు నాణెం సంపాదించడానికి తన సేకరణను సంపూర్తి చేయడానికి గతంలో కంటే ఎక్కువ కష్టపడాలని నిర్ణయించుకున్నాడు. ఆ రోజు నుండి, 100వ బంగారు నాణెం సంపాదించాలనే తపనలో, తనను సహకరించే కుటుంబాన్ని స్నేహితులను కూడా దూషించడం మొదలుపెట్టాడు, పని చేస్తున్నప్పుడు పాటలు పాడటం కూడా మానేశాడు.

ఏదైనా పెద్దది లేదా మెరుగైనది పొందుకున్న సమయంలో, దానికంటే ఇంకా ఎక్కువ పొందుకోవాలనే తపన మొదలవుతుంది!. దాని ద్వారా, మనం మన నిద్రను, మన ఆనందాన్ని కోల్పోతాము, మన చుట్టూ ఉన్న వ్యక్తులను బాధిస్తాము, ఇవన్నీ మనలో పెరుగుతున్న అవసరాలు, మించిన కోరికలే. మనకున్నదానిలో సంతోషకరమైన జీవితాన్ని ఆస్వాదించడానికి మన అవసరాలను కోరికలను సమతుల్యం చేసుకోవడం నేర్చుకోవాలి. ఈ రోజు నుండి మనం ఒక మెరుగైన జీవితాన్ని ప్రారంభించడానికి ప్రయత్నం చేద్దాం! దేవుని కృప మనందరితో ఉండునుగాక. ఆమెన్.
Need vs Desire
Once there lived a luxurious king who was neither happy nor content. One day he saw his servant singing happily while working. King asked the lowly servant why he had so much Joy? The man replied, "I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don’t need too much, just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies".
King was surprised with the answer. To keep him happier that night King secretly left a bag of 99 Gold coins at the doorstep of the servant. When the servant saw the bag, he took it into his house. When he opened the bag, he let out a great shout of joy, So many gold coins! He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were 99 coins. He wondered, “What could’ve happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!”. He looked everywhere he could, but that final coin was elusive. Finally, exhausted, he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to earn that gold coin and complete his collection. From that day, the servant’s life was changed. He was overworked, horribly grumpy, and castigated his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin. He stopped singing while he worked.

We can be happy, even with very little in our lives, but the minute we’re given something bigger and better, we want even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, we hurt the people around us, all these as a price for our growing needs and desires. We must learn to maintain a balance of our need and desires to enjoy a happy life with what we already have. Shall we start making a better life from today? God be with you. Amen.
