1. ఆ దినము సౌలు కుమారుడైన యోనాతాను తన తండ్రితో ఏమియు చెప్పక తన ఆయుధములను మోయు పడుచువానిని పిలిచి అవతలనున్న ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండు కావలివారిని హతముచేయ పోదము రమ్మనెను.

1. And when a certain day arrived, Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bore his armor, Come, and let us go over to the garrison of the Philistines that is on the other side; but he didn't tell his father.

2. సౌలు గిబియా అవతల మిగ్రోనులో దానిమ్మచెట్టు క్రింద దిగియుండెను, అతని యొద్దనున్న జనులు దాదాపు ఆరు వందలమంది.

2. And Saul sat on the top of the hill under the pomegranate tree that is in Migron, and there were with him about six hundred men.

3. And Ahijah son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, God's priest in Shiloh, was wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

4. యోనాతాను ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండు కావలివారున్న స్థలము నకు పో జూచిన దారియగు కనుమల నడుమ ఇవతల ఒక సూది గట్టును అవతల ఒక సూదిగట్టును ఉండెను, వాటిలో ఒకదాని పేరు బొస్సేసు రెండవదానిపేరు సెనే.

4. And in the midst of the passage whereby Jonathan sought to pass over to the encampment of the Philistines, there was both a sharp rock on this side, and a sharp rock on the other side. The name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5. ఒకదాని కొమ్ము మిక్మషు ఎదుట ఉత్తరపువైపునను, రెండవదాని కొమ్ము గిబియా యెదుట దక్షిణపువైపునను ఉండెను.

5. The one way was northward to one coming to Michmash, and the other way was southward to one coming to Gibeah.

6. యోనాతానుఈ సున్నతిలేని వారి దండు కాపరులమీదికి పోదము రమ్ము, యెహోవా మన కార్యమును సాగించునేమో, అనేకులచేతనైనను కొద్దిమందిచేతనైనను రక్షించుటకు యెహోవాకు అడ్డమా అని తన ఆయుధ ములు మోయువానితో చెప్పగా

6. And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armor, Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; [perhaps] the Lord may do something for us; for nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.

7. అతడునీ మనస్సులో ఉన్నదంతయు చేయుము, పోదము రమ్ము. నీ యిష్టాను సారముగా నేను నీకు తోడుగా నున్నానని అతనితో చెప్పెను.

7. And his armorbearer said to him, Do all that is in your heart: behold, I am with you, my heart is as your heart.

8. అప్పుడు యోనాతానుమనము వారి దగ్గరకు పోయి మనలను వారికి అగుపరుచుకొందము.

8. And Jonathan said, Behold, we will go over to the men, and will come down suddenly upon them.

9. వారు మనలను చూచిమేము మీ యొద్దకు వచ్చు వరకు అక్కడ నిలువుడని చెప్పిన యెడల వారియొద్దకు పోక మనమున్నచోట నిలుచుదము.

9. If they should say thus to us, Wait until we send you word; then we will stand still by ourselves, and will not go up against them.

10. మాయొద్దకు రండని వారు చెప్పినయెడల యెహోవా వారిని మనచేతికి అప్ప గించెనని దానిచేత గుర్తించి మనము పోదమని చెప్పగా

10. [But] if they should say thus to us, Come up to us; then will we go up, for the Lord has delivered them into our hands. This [shall be] a sign to us.

11. వీరిద్దరు తమ్మును తాము ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండుకాపరులకు అగుపరుచుకొనిరి. అప్పుడే ఫిలిష్తీయులుచూడుడి, తాము దాగియుండిన గుహలలోనుండి హెబ్రీయులు బయలుదేరి వచ్చుచున్నారని చెప్పుకొనుచు

11. And they both went in to the garrison of the Philistines, and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of their caves, where they had hidden themselves.

12. యోనా తానును అతని ఆయుధములను మోయువానిని పిలిచిమేము మీకు ఒకటి చూపింతుము రండని చెప్పినప్పుడు యోనాతానునా వెనుక రమ్ము, యెహోవా ఇశ్రాయేలీ యుల చేతికి వారినప్పగించెనని తన ఆయుధములు మోయు వానితో చెప్పి

12. And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armorbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. And Jonathan said to his armorbearer, Come up after me, for the Lord has delivered them into the hands of Israel.

13. అతడును అతని వెనుక అతని ఆయుధములు మోయువాడును తమ చేతులతోను కాళ్లతోను ప్రాకి యెక్కిరి. ఫిలిష్తీయులు యోనాతాను దెబ్బకు పడగా అతనివెనుక వచ్చు అతని ఆయుధములు మోయు వాడు వారిని చంపెను.

13. And Jonathan went up on his hands and feet, and his armorbearer with him; and they looked on the face of Jonathan, and he struck them, and his armorbearer then killed [them] after him.

14. And the first slaughter which Jonathan and his armorbearer effected was twenty men, with darts and slings, and pebbles of the field.

15. దండులోను పొలములోను జనులందరిలోను మహా భయకంపము కలిగెను. దండు కావలివారును దోపుడు గాండ్రును భీతినొందిరి; నేలయదిరెను. వారు ఈ భయము దైవికమని భావించిరి.

15. And there was dismay in the camp, and in the field; and all the people in the garrison, and the spoilers were amazed; and they would not act, and the land was terrorstruck, and there was dismay from the Lord.

16. దండువారు చెదిరిపోయి బొత్తిగా ఓడిపోవుట బెన్యామీనీయుల గిబియాలో నున్న సౌలు యొక్క వేగులవారికి కనబడగా

16. And the watchmen of Saul beheld in Gibeah of Benjamin, and behold, the army was thrown into confusion on every side.

17. సౌలుమీరు లెక పెట్టి మనయొద్ద లేనివారెవరో చూడుడని తనయొద్దనున్న జనులతో చెప్పెను. వారు లెక్క చూచి యోనాతానును అతని ఆయుధములు మోయువాడును లేరని తెలిసికొనిరి.

17. And Saul said to the people with him, Number yourselves now, and see who has gone out from you: and they numbered themselves, and behold, Jonathan and his armorbearer were not found.

18. దేవుని మందసము అప్పుడు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులయొద్ద ఉండగాదేవుని మందసమును ఇక్కడికి తీసికొనిరమ్మని సౌలు అహీయాకు సెలవిచ్చెను.

18. And Saul said to Ahijah, Bring the ephod; for he wore the ephod in that day before Israel.

19. సౌలు యాజకునితో మాటలాడుచుండగా ఫిలిష్తీయుల దండులో ధ్వని మరి యెక్కువగా వినబడెను; కాబట్టి సౌలు యాజకునితోనీ చెయ్యి వెనుకకు తీయుమని చెప్పి

19. And it came to pass while Saul was speaking to the priest, that the sound in the camp of the Philistines continued to increase greatly; and Saul said to the priest, Withdraw your hands.

20. తానును తనయొద్ద నున్న జనులందరును కూడుకొని యుద్ధమునకు చొరబడిరి. వారు రాగా ఫిలిష్తీయులు కలవరపడి ఒకరినొకరు హతము చేసికొనుచుండిరి.

20. And Saul went up and all the people that were with him, and they came to the battle. And behold, every man's sword was against his neighbor, a very great confusion.

21. మరియు అంతకుమునుపు ఫిలిష్తీయుల వశముననున్నవారై చుట్టునున్న ప్రాంతములలో నుండి వారితోకూడ దండునకు వచ్చిన హెబ్రీయులు సౌలు నొద్దను యోనాతానునొద్దను ఉన్న ఇశ్రాయేలీ యులతో కలిసికొనవలెనని ఫిలిష్తీయులను విడిచిరి.

21. And the servants who had been before with the Philistines, who had gone up to the army, turned themselves also to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

22. అదియు గాక ఎఫ్రాయిము మన్యములో దాగియున్న ఇశ్రాయేలీయులును ఫిలిష్తీయులు పారిపోయిరని విని యుద్ధమందు వారిని తరుముటలో కూడిరి.

22. And all the Israelites who were hidden in Mount Ephraim heard also that the Philistines fled; and they also gathered themselves after them to battle. And the Lord saved Israel in that day. And the war passed through Bamoth; and all the people with Saul were about ten thousand men.

23. ఆ దినమున యెహోవా ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఈలాగున రక్షించెను. యుద్ధము బేతావెను అవతలకు సాగగా ఆ దినమున ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు చాలా బడలిక నొందిరి.

23. And the battle extended itself to every city in the mount of Ephraim.

24. నేను నా శత్రువులమీద పగ తీర్చుకొనక మునుపు, సాయంత్రము కాకమునుపు భోజనము చేయువాడు శపింపబడును అనిసౌలు జనులచేత ప్రమాణము చేయించెను, అందువలన జనులు ఏమియు తినకుండిరి.

24. And Saul committed a great trespass of ignorance in that day, and he placed a curse on the people, saying, Cursed is the man who shall eat bread before the evening; so I will avenge myself on my enemy. And none of the people tasted bread, though all the land was dining.

25. జనులందరు ఒక అడవిలోనికి రాగా అక్కడ నేలమీద తేనె కనబడెను.

25. Now all [the people] of the land came to a forest; and there was honey on the ground.

26. జనులు ఆ అడవిని జొరగా తేనె కాలువ కట్టియుండెను గాని జనులు తాము చేసిన ప్రమాణమునకు భయపడి ఒకడును చెయ్యి నోటపెట్టలేదు.

26. And the people went into the place of the bees, and behold, they continued speaking; but there was none that put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath of the Lord.

27. అయితే యోనాతాను తన తండ్రి జనులచేత చేయించిన ప్రమాణము వినలేదు. గనుక తన చేతికఱ్ఱ చాపి దాని కొనను తేనె పట్టులో ముంచి తన చెయ్యి నోటిలో పెట్టుకొనగా అతని కన్నులు ప్రకాశించెను.

27. And Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people; and he reached forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and dipped it into the honeycomb, and returned his hand to his mouth, and his eyes recovered their sight.

28. జనులలో ఒకడునీ తండ్రి జనులచేత ప్రమాణము చేయించిఈ దినమున ఆహారము పుచ్చుకొనువాడు శపింపబడునని ఖండితముగా ఆజ్ఞాపించియున్నాడు; అందుచేతనే జనులు బహు బడలియున్నారని చెప్పెను.

28. And one of the people answered and said, Your father solemnly adjured the people, saying, Cursed is the man who shall eat bread today. And the people were very faint,

29. అందుకు యోనాతాను అందుచేత నా తండ్రి జనులను కష్టపెట్టినవాడాయెను; నేను ఈ తేనె కొంచెము పుచ్చుకొన్న మాత్రమున నా కన్నులు ఎంత ప్రకాశించుచున్నవో చూడుడి

29. and Jonathan knew it, and said, My father has destroyed the land: see how my eyes have received sight [now] that I have tasted a little of this honey.

30. జనులు తాము చిక్కించుకొనిన తమ శత్రువుల దోపుళ్లవలన బాగుగా భోజనము చేసినయెడల వారు ఫిలిష్తీయులను మరి అధికముగా హతము చేసియుందురనెను.

30. Surely if the people had this day eaten freely of the spoils of their enemies which they found, the slaughter among the Philistines would have been greater.

31. ఆ దినమున జనులు ఫిలిష్తీయులను మిక్మషునుండి అయ్యాలోను వరకు హతముచేయగా జనులు బహు బడలిక నొందిరి.

31. And on that day he struck some of the Philistines in Michmash; and the people were very weary.

32. జనులు దోపుడుమీద ఎగబడి, గొఱ్ఱెలను ఎడ్లను పెయ్యలను తీసికొని నేలమీద వాటిని వధించి రక్తముతోనే భక్షించినందున

32. And the people turned to the spoil; and the people took flocks, and herds, and calves, and killed them on the ground, and the people ate with the blood.

33. జనులు రక్తముతోనే తిని యెహోవా దృష్టికి పాపము చేయుచున్నారని కొందరు సౌలునకు తెలియజేయగా అతడు మీరు విశ్వాస ఘాతకులైతిరి; పెద్ద రాయి యొకటి నేడు నా దగ్గరకు దొర్లించి తెండని చెప్పి

33. And it was reported to Saul, saying, The people have sinned against the Lord, eating with the blood. And Saul said, Roll a large stone to me here.

34. మీరు అక్కడక్కడికి జనుల మధ్యకు పోయి, అందరు తమ యెద్దులను తమ గొఱ్ఱెలను నాయొద్దకు తీసికొనివచ్చి యిక్కడ వధించి భక్షింపవలెను; రక్తముతో మాంసము తిని యెహోవా దృష్టికి పాపము చేయకుడని వారితో చప్పుడని కొందరిని పంపెను. కాబట్టి జనులందరు ఆ రాత్రి తమ తమ యెద్దులను తీసికొని వచ్చి అక్కడ వధిం చిరి.

34. And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them to bring here everyone his calf, and everyone his sheep; and let them kill it on this stone and sin not against the Lord in eating with the blood. And the people brought each one that which was in his hand, and they killed them there.

35. మరియు సౌలు యెహోవాకు ఒక బలిపీఠమును కట్టించెను. యెహోవాకు అతడు కట్టించిన మొదటి బలిపీఠము అదే.

35. And Saul built an altar there to the Lord (this was the first altar that Saul built to the Lord).

36. అంతటమనము రాత్రియందు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరిమి తెల్లవారువరకు వారిని కలతపెట్టి, శేషించువా డొకడును లేకుండ చేతము రండి అని సౌలు ఆజ్ఞ ఇయ్యగా జనులునీ దృష్టికి ఏది మంచిదో అది చేయుమనిరి. అంతట సౌలుయాజకుడు ఇక్కడనే యున్నాడు, దేవునియొద్ద విచారణ చేయుదము రండని చెప్పి

36. And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines this night, and let us plunder among them till daybreak, and let us not leave a man among them. And they said, Do all that is good in your sight. And the priest said, let us draw near to God here.

37. సౌలుఫిలిష్తీయుల వెనుక నేను దిగిపోయిన యెడల నీవు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల చేతికి వారి నప్పగింతువా అని దేవునియొద్ద విచారణ చేయగా, ఆ దినమున ఆయన అతనికి ప్రత్యుత్తరమియ్యక యుండెను.

37. And Saul inquired of God, If I go down after the Philistines, will You deliver them into the hands of Israel? And He answered him not in that day.

38. అందువలన సౌలుజనులలో పెద్దలు నా యొద్దకు వచ్చి నేడు ఎవరివలన ఈ పాపము కలిగెనో అది విచారింపవలెను.

38. And Saul said, Bring here all the chiefs of Israel, and know and see by whom this sin has been committed this day.

39. నా కుమారుడైన యోనాతాను వలన కలిగినను వాడు తప్పక మరణమవునని ఇశ్రాయేలీ యులను రక్షించు యెహోవా జీవముతోడని నేను ప్రమా ణము చేయుచున్నాననెను. అయితే జనులందరిలో అతనికి ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చిన వాడు ఒకడును లేకపోయెను.

39. For as the Lord lives who has saved Israel, if [the] answer should be against my son Jonathan, he shall surely die. And there was no one that answered out of all the people.

40. మీరు ఒక తట్టునను నేనును నా కుమారుడగు యోనాతానును ఒక తట్టునను ఉండవలెనని అతడు జనులందరితో చెప్పగా జనులునీ దృష్టికి ఏది మంచిదో అది చేయుమని సౌలుతో చెప్పిరి.

40. And he said to all the men of Israel, You shall be under subjection, and I and Jonathan my son will be under subjection. And the people said to Saul, Do that which is good in your sight.

41. అప్పుడు సౌలుఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు దేవుడవైన యెహోవా, దోషిని కనుపరచుమని ప్రార్థింపగా సౌలు పేరటను యోనాతాను పేరటను చీటిపడెను గాని జనులు తప్పించుకొనిరి.

41. And Saul said, O Lord God of Israel, why have You not answered Your servant this day? Is the iniquity in me, or in Jonathan my son? Lord God of Israel, give clear [manifestations], and if [the lot] should declare this, give holiness, I pray, to Your people of Israel. And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped.

42. నాకును నా కుమారుడైన యోనాతానునకును చీట్లు వేయుడని సౌలు ఆజ్ఞ ఇయ్యగా యోనాతాను పేరట చీటి పడెను.

42. And Saul said, Cast [lots] between me and my son Jonathan: whomever the Lord shall cause to be taken by lot, let him die. And the people said to Saul, This thing is not [to be done]. And Saul prevailed against the people, and they cast lots between him and Jonathan his son, and Jonathan was taken by lot.

43. నీవు చేసినదేదో నాతో చెప్పుమని యోనాతానుతో అనగా యోనాతానునా చేతికఱ్ఱకొనతో కొంచెము తేనె పుచ్చుకొన్న మాట వాస్తవమే; కొంచెము తేనెకై నేను మరణమొందవలసి వచ్చినదని అతనితో అనెను.

43. And Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did indeed taste a little honey, with the end of my staff that was in my hand; and behold, I am to die!

44. అందుకు సౌలుయోనాతానా, నీవు అవశ్యముగా మరణమవుదువు, నేను ఒప్పుకొనని యెడల దేవుడు నాకు గొప్ప అపాయము కలుగజేయునుగాక అనెను.

44. And Saul said to him, God do so to me, and more also, you shall surely die today.

45. అయితే జనులు సౌలుతోఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు ఇంత గొప్ప రక్షణ కలుగ జేసిన యోనాతాను మరణమవునా? అదెన్నటికినికూడదు. దేవుని సహాయముచేత ఈ దినమున యోనాతాను మనలను జయము నొందించెను; యెహోవా జీవము తోడు అతని తలవెండ్రుకలలో ఒకటియు నేల రాలదని చెప్పి యోనాతాను మరణము కాకుండ జనులు అతని రక్షించిరి.

45. And the people said to Saul, Shall he that has accomplished this great salvation in Israel be put to death this day? [As] the Lord lives, there shall not fall to the ground one of the hairs of his head; for the people of God have done good this day. And the people prayed for Jonathan in that day, and he died not.

46. అప్పుడు సౌలు ఫిలిష్తీయులను తరుముట మాని వెళ్లిపోగా ఫిలిష్తీయులు తమ స్థలమునకు వెళ్లిరి.

46. And Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines departed to their place.

47. ఈలాగున సౌలు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఏలుటకు అధి కారము నొందినవాడై నఖముఖాల వారి శత్రువులైన మాయాబీయులతోను అమ్మోనీయులతోను ఎదోమీ యులతోను సోబాదేశపు రాజులతోను ఫిలిష్తీయులతోను యుద్ధము చేసెను. ఎవరిమీదికి అతడు పోయెనో వారి నందరిని ఓడించెను.

47. So Saul received the kingdom. By lot he inherited the office [of ruling] over Israel. And he fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, against the children of Ammon, against the children of Edom, against Beth Hor, against the king of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he was victorious.

48. And he did valiantly, and struck Amalek, and rescued Israel out of the hand of them that trampled on him.

49. And the sons of Saul were Jonathan, Jishui, and Malchishua. And [these were] the names of his two daughters: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the second Michal.

50. సౌలుయొక్క భార్యకు అహీనోయమని పేరు, ఈమె అహిమయస్సు కుమార్తె. అతని సైన్యాధిపతి పేరు అబ్నేరు, ఇతడు సౌలునకు పిన తండ్రియైన నేరు కుమారుడు.

50. And the name of his wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz. And the name of his captain of the army was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51. సౌలు తండ్రియగు కీషును అబ్నేరు తండ్రి యగు నేరును అబీయేలు కుమారులు.

51. And Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Jamin, son of Abiel.

52. సౌలు బ్రదికిన దినములన్నియు ఫిలిష్తీయులతో ఘోర యుద్ధము జరుగగా తాను చూచిన బలాఢ్యుల నందరిని పరాక్రమశాలులనందరిని తనయొద్దకు చేర్చుకొనెను.

52. And the war was fierce against the Philistines all the days of Saul. And when Saul saw any mighty man, and any valiant man, then he took them to himself.
