1. సమూయేలు వృద్ధుడైనప్పుడు తన కుమారులను ఇశ్రా యేలీయులమీద న్యాయాధిపతులుగా నియమించెను.

1. And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons judges to Israel;

2. అతని జ్యేష్ఠకుమారుని పేరు యోవేలు; రెండవవాని పేరు అబీయా,

2. and the name of his firstborn son was, Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah, they were judges in Beer-sheba.

3. వీరు బెయేర్షెబాలో న్యాయాధిపతులుగా ఉండిరి. అతని కుమారులు అతని ప్రవర్తనను అనుసరింపక, ధనాపేక్షకులై లంచములు పుచ్చుకొని న్యాయమును త్రిప్పివేయగా

3. Howbeit his sons walked not in his ways, but stooped to extortion, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

4. ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల పెద్దలందరు కూడి రామాలో సమూయేలునొద్దకు వచ్చి

4. So then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came unto Samuel, to Ramah;

5. చిత్తగించుము, నీవు వృద్ధుడవు, నీ కుమారులు నీ ప్రవర్తనవంటి ప్రవర్తన గలవారు కారు గనుక, సకలజనుల మర్యాదచొప్పున మాకు ఒక రాజును నియమింపుము, అతడు మాకు న్యాయము తీర్చునని అతనితో అనిరి.

5. and said unto him Lo! thou, art old, and, thy sons, walk not in thy ways: Now, appoint for us a king to judge us, like all the nations.

6. మాకు న్యాయము తీర్చుటకై రాజును నియమింపుమని వారు అనిన మాట సమూయేలు దృష్టికి ప్రతికూలముగా ఉండెను గనుక సమూయేలు యెహోవాను ప్రార్థనచేసెను.

6. But the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give unto us a king to judge us. So Samuel prayed unto Yahweh.

7. అందుకు యెహోవా సమూయేలునకు సెలవిచ్చినదేమనగాజనులు నీతో చెప్పిన మాటలన్నిటి ప్రకారము జరిగింపుము; వారు నిన్ను విసర్జింపలేదుగాని తమ్మును ఏలకుండ నన్నే విసర్జించి యున్నారు.

7. And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people, in all that they shall say unto thee, for, not thee, have they rejected, but, me, have they rejected, from being king over them.

8. వారు నన్ను విసర్జించి, యితర దేవతలను పూజించి, నేను ఐగుప్తులోనుండి వారిని రప్పించిన నాటి నుండి నేటివరకు తాము చేయుచువచ్చిన కార్యములన్నిటి ప్రకారముగా వారు నీయెడలను జరిగించుచున్నారు; వారు చెప్పిన మాటలను అంగీకరించుము.

8. According to all the doings which they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt, even until this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so, are they doing even unto thee.

9. అయితే వారిని ఏలబోవు రాజు ఎట్టివాడగునో నీవే సాక్షివై వారికి దృఢముగా తెలియజేయుము.

9. Now, therefore, hearken to their voice, save that thou, enter protest, against them, and tell them the manner of the king who will reign over them.

10. సమూయేలు తనను, రాజును అడిగిన జనులకు యెహోవా మాటలన్ని వినిపించి

10. So then Samuel spake all the words of Yahweh unto the people, who were asking of him, a king.

11. ఈలాగున చెప్పెనుమిమ్మును ఏలబోవు రాజు ఎట్టివాడగుననగా, అతడు మీ కుమారులను పట్టుకొని, తన రథములను తోలుటకును తన గుఱ్ఱములను కాపాడుటకును వారిని ఉంచుకొనును, కొందరు అతని రథముల ముందర పరగెత్తుదురు.

11. And he said, This, will be the manner of the king who will reign over you, Your sons, will he take and appoint for himself, as his charioteers and as his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;

12. మరియు అతడు వారిని తన సైన్యములో సహస్రాధిపతులుగాను పంచదశాధిపతులుగాను నియమించును; తన భూములను దున్నుటకును వాటి పంటను కోయుటకును తన యుద్ధా యుధములను తన రథముల సామానులను చేయుటకును వారిని ఏర్పరచుకొనును.

12. and he will appoint for himself, princes of thousands, and princes of fifties, and to plough his fields, and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war, and the instruments of his chariots;

13. మీ కుమార్తెలను భక్ష్యకారిణులుగాను బోనకత్తెలుగాను రొట్టెలు కాల్చువారిని గాను పెట్టుకొనును.

13. And, your daughters, will he take, as perfumers and as cooks, and as bakers;

14. మీ పొలములలోను మీ ద్రాక్షతోటలలోను ఒలీవతోటలలోను శ్రేష్ఠమైనవాటిని తీసికొని తన సేవకులకిచ్చును.

14. And, your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best of them, will he take, and give to his servants;

15. మీ ధాన్యములోను ద్రాక్ష పండ్లలోను పదియవ భాగము తీసి తన పరివారజనమునకును సేవకులకును ఇచ్చును.

15. And, your seed, and your vineyards, will he tithe, and give to his courtiers and to his servants;

16. మీ దాసులను మీ పనికత్తెలను మీ పశువులలోను గార్దభములలోను శ్రేష్ఠమైన వాటిని పట్టుకొని తన పనికొరకు ఉంచుకొనును.

16. And, your men-servants, and your maidservants, and your oxen, even the goodliest, and your asses, will he take, and put them to his work;

17. మీ మందలో పదియవభాగము పట్టుకొనును, మీమట్టుకు మీరు అతనికి దాసులవుదురు.

17. Your flocks, will he tithe, and, ye yourselves, shall become his servants.

18. ఆ దినమున మీరు కోరు కొనిన రాజునుబట్టి మీరు మొఱ్ఱపెట్టినను యెహోవా మీ మొఱ్ఱవినక పోవును అనెను.

18. Then will ye make outcry, in that day, because of your king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, and Yahweh will not answer you, in that day.

19. అయినను జనులు సమూయేలు యొక్క మాట చెవిని బెట్టనొల్లకఆలాగున కాదు,

19. But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel, and they said Nay! but, a king, shall be over us:

20. జనములు చేయురీతిని మేమును చేయునట్లుమాకు రాజుకావలెను, మా రాజు మాకు న్యాయము తీర్చును, మా ముందర పోవుచు అతడే మా యుద్ధములను జరిగించుననిరి.

20. so shall, even we, become like all the nations, and our king shall judge us, and go forth before us, and fight our battles.

21. సమూయేలు జనులయొక్క మాటలన్నిటిని విని యెహోవా సన్ని ధిని వాటిని వివరించెను

21. And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and spake them in the ears of Yahweh.

22. గనుక యెహోవానీవు వారి మాటలు విని వారికి ఒక రాజును నియమించుమని సమూయేలునకు సెలవియ్యగా సమూయేలుమీరందరు మీ మీ గ్రామములకు పొండని ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు సెలవిచ్చెను.

22. And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel: Go ye, every man to his own city.
