1. అహష్వేరోషు దినములలో జరిగిన చర్యల వివరము; హిందూదేశము మొదలుకొని కూషు దేశమువరకు నూట ఇరువది యేడు సంస్థానములను అహష్వేరోషు ఏలెను.

1. [In the second year of reign of Artaxerxes the great king, on the first [day] of Nisan, Mordecai the [son] of Jair, the [son] of Shimei, the [son] of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Jew dwelling in the city of Susa, a great man, serving in the king's palace, saw a vision. Now he was of the captivity which Nebuchaznezzar king of Babylon had carried captive from Jerusalem, with Jeconiah the king of Judea. And this [was] his dream: Behold, voices and a noise, thunders and an earthquake, and tumult upon the earth. And behold, two great serpents came forth, both ready for conflict, and there came from them a great voice, and by their voice of every nation was prepared for battle, even to fight against the nation of the just. And behold, a day of darkness and blackness, tribulation and anguish, affliction and great tumult upon the earth. And all the righteous nation was troubled, fearing their own afflictions; and they prepared to die, and cried to God. And from their cry there came as it were a great river from a little fountain, [even] much water. And light and the sun arose, and the lowly were exalted, and devoured the honorable. And Mordecai, who had seen this vision and what God designed to do, having awoke, kept in his heart, and desired by all means to interpret it, even till night. And Mordecai rested quiet in the palace with Gabatha and Tharrha, the king's two chamberlains, eunuchs who guarded the palace. And he heard their reasonings and searched out their plans, and learned that they were preparing to lay hands on King Artaxerxes. And he informed the king concerning them. And the king examined the two chamberlains, and they confessed, and were executed. And the king wrote these things for a memorial; also Mordecai wrote concerning these matters. And the king commanded Mordecai to attend in the palace, and gave him gifts for this service. And Haman the son of Hammedatha the Bugaean was honorable in the sight of the king, and he endeavored to hurt Mordecai and his people, because of the two eunuchs of the king.] [ 1:1] And it came to pass after these things in the days of Artaxerxes (this Artaxerxes ruled over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces from India),

2. ఆ కాలమందు రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు షూషను కోటలో నుండి రాజ్యపరిపాలన చేయుచుండగా

2. in those days, when King Artaxerxes was on the throne in the city of Susa,

3. తన యేలుబడి యందు మూడవ సంవత్సరమున తన అధిపతులకందరికిని సేవకులకును విందు చేయించెను. పారసీక దేశము యొక్కయు మాద్య దేశముయొక్కయు పరాక్రమశాలులును ఘనులును సంస్థానాధిపతులును అతని సన్నిధినుండగా

3. in the third year of his reign, he made a feast for his friends, and the other nations, and to the nobles of the Persians and Medes, and the chief of the satraps.

4. అతడు తన మహిమగల రాజ్యముయొక్క ఐశ్వర్య ప్రభావములను, తన మహత్యాతిశయ ఘనతలను అనేక దినములు, అనగా నూట ఎనుబది దినములు కనుపరచెను.

4. And after this, after he had shown to them the wealth of his kingdom, and the abundant glory of his wealth during a hundred and eighty days,

5. ఆ దినములు గడచిన తరువాత రాజు షూషను కోటలోనున్న అల్పులకేమి ఘనులకేమి జనులకందరికిని రాజు కోటలోని తోట ఆవరణములో ఏడు దినములు విందు చేయించెను.

5. when the days of the marriage feast were completed, the king made a banquet for the nations who were present in the city six days, in the court of the king's house,

6. అక్కడ ధవళ ధూమ్రవర్ణములుగల అవిసెనారతో చేయబడిన త్రాళ్లతో చలువరాతి స్తంభ ములమీద ఉంచబడిన వెండి కమ్ములకు తగిలించిన తెలుపును ఊదారంగును కలిసిన తెరలు వ్రేలాడుచుండెను. మరియు ఎరుపు తెలుపు పసుపు నలుపు అయిన చలువరాళ్లు పరచిన నేలమీద వెండి బంగారుమయమైన జలతారుగల పరుపులుండెను.

6. [which was] adorned with [hangings] of fine linen and flax on cords of fine linen and purple, fastened to golden and silver studs, on pillars of Parian marble and stone. [There were] golden and silver couches on a pavement of emerald stone, and of pearl, and of Parian stone, and open-worked coverings variously flowered, [having] roses worked round about;

7. అచ్చట కూడినవారికి వివిధమైన బంగారు పాత్రలతో పానమిచ్చుచు, రాజు స్థితికి తగినట్టుగా రాజు ద్రాక్షారసమును దాసులు అధికముగా పోసిరి.

7. gold and silver cups, and a small cup of carbuncle set out of the value of thirty thousand talents, abundant and sweet wine, which the king himself drank.

8. ఆ విందు పానము ఆజ్ఞానుసారముగా జరుగుటనుబట్టి యెవరును బలవంతము చేయలేదు; ఎవడు కోరినట్టుగా వానికి పెట్టవలెనని తన కోటపనివారికి రాజు ఆజ్ఞ నిచ్చి యుండెను.

8. And this banquet was not according to the appointed law; but so the king would have it: and he charged the stewards to perform his will and that of the company.

9. రాణియైన వష్తి కూడ రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు కోటలో స్త్రీలకు ఒక విందు చేయించెను.

9. Also Vashti the queen made a banquet for the women in the palace where King Artaxerxes [dwelt].

10. ఏడవ దినమందు రాజు ద్రాక్షారసము త్రాగి సంతో షముగా నున్నప్పుడు, కూడివచ్చిన జనమునకును, అధిపతులకును రాణియైన వష్తియొక్క సౌందర్యమును కను పరచవలెనని రాజ కిరీటము ధరించుకొనిన ఆమెను తన సన్నిధికి పిలుచుకొని వచ్చునట్లు

10. Now on the seventh day the king, being merry, told Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Zethar, Abagtha, and Carcas, the seven eunuchs, servants of King Artaxerxes,

11. రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు ఎదుట ఉపచారము చేయు మెహూమాను బిజ్తా హర్బోనా బిగ్తా అబగ్తా జేతరు కర్కసు అను ఏడుగురు నపుంసకులకు ఆజ్ఞాపించెను. ఆమె సౌందర్యవతి.

11. to bring the queen in to him, to enthrone her, and crown her with the diadem, and to show her to the princes, and her beauty to the nations, for she was beautiful.

12. రాణియైన వష్తి నపుంసకులచేత ఇయ్యబడిన రాజాజ్ఞ ప్రకారము వచ్చుటకు ఒప్పకపోగా రాజు మిగుల కోపగించెను, అతని కోపము రగులుకొనెను.

12. But Queen Vashti hearkened not to him to come with the chamberlains, so the king was grieved and angered.

13. విధిని రాజ్యధర్మమును ఎరిగిన వారందరిచేత రాజు ప్రతి సంగతి పరిష్కరించుకొనువాడు గనుక

13. And he said to his friends, Thus has Vashti spoken: pronounce therefore upon this [case] law and judgment.

14. అతడు కాలజ్ఞానులను చూచిరాణియైన వష్తి రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు అను నేను నపుంసకులచేత ఇచ్చిన ఆజ్ఞప్రకారము చేయక పోయినందున ఆమెకు విధినిబట్టి చేయవలసినదేమని వారి నడిగెను.

14. So Carshena, Shethar, and Malisear, the princes of the Persians and Medes, who were near the king, who sat chief [in rank] by the king, drew near to him,

15. అతని సన్నిధిని ఉండి రాజు ముఖమును చూచుచు, రాజ్యమందు ప్రథమపీఠముల మీద కూర్చుండు పారసీకులయొక్కయు మాదీయుల యొక్కయు ఏడుగురు ప్రధానులు ఎవరనగాకర్షెనా షెతారు అద్మాతా తర్షీషు మెరెను మర్సెనా మెమూకాను అనువారు.

15. and reported to him according to the laws how it was proper to do to Queen Vashti, because she had not done the things commanded of the king by the eunuchs.

16. మెమూకాను రాజు ఎదుటను ప్రధానుల యెదుటను ఈలాగు ప్రత్యుత్తరమిచ్చెను రాణియైన వష్తి రాజు ఎడల మాత్రము కాదు, రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు యొక్క సకల సంస్థానములలోనుండు అధిపతులందరి యెడలను జనులందరియెడలను నేరస్థురాలాయెను.

16. And Memucan said to the king and to the princes, Queen Vashti has not wronged the king only, but also all the king's rulers and princes,

17. ఏల యనగా రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు తన రాణియైన వష్తిని తన సన్నిధికి పిలుచుకొని రావలెనని ఆజ్ఞాపింపగా ఆమె రాలేదను సంగతి బయలుపడగానే స్త్రీలందరు దానివిని, ముఖము ఎదుటనే తమ పురుషులను తిరస్కారము చేయుదురు.

17. for he has told them the words of the queen, and how she disobeyed the king. As then, [he said], she refused [to obey] King Artaxerxes,

18. మరియు పారసీకులయొక్కయు మాదీయుల యొక్కయు నాయకపత్నులు రాణి చేసినదాని సమా చారము విని, రాణి పలికినట్లు ఈ దినమందు రాజుయొక్క అధిపతులందరితో పలుకుదురు. దీనివలన బహు తిరస్కారమును కోపమును పుట్టును.

18. so this day shall the other ladies of the chiefs of the Persians and Medes, having heard what she said to the king, dare in the same way to dishonor their husbands.

19. రాజునకు సమ్మతి ఆయెనా వష్తి రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు సన్నిధికి ఇకను రాకూడదని తమయొద్దనుండి యొక రాజాజ్ఞ పుట్టవలెను. అది తప్పకుండునట్లు పారసీకులయొక్కయు మాదీయుల యొక్కయు న్యాయముచొప్పున నియమింపవలెను. మరియు వష్తికంటె యోగ్యురాలిని రాణినిగా తాము చేయవలెను.

19. If then it seem good to the king, let him make a royal decree, and let it be written according to the laws of the Medes and Persians, and let him not alter [it]. And let not the queen come in to him anymore, and let the king give her royalty to a woman better than she.

20. మరియు రాజు చేయు నిర్ణయము విస్తారమైన తమ రాజ్యమందంతట ప్రకటించినయెడల, ఘనురాలు గాని అల్పురాలుగాని స్త్రీలందరు తమ పురుషులను సన్మానించుదురని చెప్పెను.

20. And let the law of the king which he shall have made, be widely proclaimed in his kingdom. And so shall all the women give honor to their husbands, from the poor even to the rich.

21. ఈ సంగతి రాజునకును అధిపతులకును అనుకూలముగా ఉండెను గనుక అతడు మెమూకాను మాట ప్రకారము చేసెను.

21. And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did as Memucan had said,

22. ప్రతి పురుషుడు తన యింటిలో అధికారిగా నుండవలెననియు, ప్రతి పురుషుడు తన స్వభాష ననుసరించి తన యింటివారితో మాటలాడవలెననియు ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చి, ప్రతి సంస్థానమునకు దాని వ్రాత ప్రకారముగాను, ప్రతి జనమునకు దాని భాష ప్రకారముగాను రాజు తన సకలమైన సంస్థానములకు దానిని గూర్చిన తాకీదులు పంపించెను.

22. and sent into all his kingdom through the several provinces, according to their language, in order that men might be feared in their own houses.
