1. యాకోబు తన త్రోవను వెళ్లుచుండగా దేవదూతలు అతనిని ఎదుర్కొనిరి.

1. When, Jacob, had gone on his way, there met him, messengers of God.

2. యాకోబు వారిని చూచి - ఇది దేవుని సేన అని చెప్పి ఆ చోటికి మహనయీము అను పేరు పెట్టెను.

2. And Jacob said, when he saw them, the camp of God, is this! So he called the name of that place, Mahanaim.

3. యాకోబు ఎదోము దేశమున, అనగా శేయీరు దేశముననున్న తన సహోదరుడైన ఏశావునొద్దకు దూతలను తనకు ముందుగా పంపి

3. Then did Jacob send messengers before him unto Esau his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.

4. మీరు నా ప్రభువైన ఏశావుతో ఇంతవరకు నేను లాబానునొద్ద నివసించి యుంటిని;

4. And he commanded them, saying, Thus, shall ye say to my lord to Esau, Thus, saith thy servant Jacob, With Laban, have I sojourned, and tarried until now:

5. నాకు పశువులు గాడిదలు మందలు దాసదాసీజనమును కలరు; నీ కటాక్షము నాయందు కలుగునట్లుగా నా ప్రభువునకిది తెలియచేయనంపితినని నీ సేవకుడైన యాకోబు అనెనని చెప్పుడని వారి కాజ్ఞాపించెను.

5. And I have oxen and asses, flocks and men-servants, and maid-servants, So I must needs send to tell my lord, that I might find favour in thine eyes.

6. ఆ దూతలు యాకోబు నొద్దకు తిరిగివచ్చి - మేము నీ సహోదరుడైన ఏశావునొద్దకు వెళ్లితివిు; అతడు నాలుగువందల మందితో నిన్ను ఎదుర్కొన వచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పగా

6. And the messengers returned unto Jacob, saying, We came in unto thy brother unto Esau, moreover also he is on his way to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

7. యాకోబు మిక్కిలి భయపడి తొందరపడి

7. Then was Jacob greatly afraid, and in distress. So he divided the people that were with him and the flocks and the herds and the camels into two camps,

8. ఏశావు ఒక గుంపు మీదికి వచ్చి దాని హతము చేసినయెడల మిగిలిన గుంపు తప్పించుకొనిపోవుననుకొని, తనతోనున్న జనులను మందలను పశువులను ఒంటెలను రెండు గుంపులుగా విభాగించెను.

8. And he said. Should Esau come upon the one camp, and smite it, yet shall the camp that is left escape.

9. అప్పుడు యాకోబు - నా తండ్రియైన అబ్రాహాము దేవా, నా తండ్రియైన ఇస్సాకు దేవా, నీ దేశమునకు నీ బంధువుల యొద్దకు తిరిగి వెళ్లుము, నీకు మేలు చేసెదనని నాతో చెప్పిన యెహోవా,

9. And Jacob said, God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Yahweh, who wast saying unto me, Return to thy land and to thy kindred that I may deal well with thee:

10. నీవు నీ సేవకునికి చేసిన సమస్తమైన ఉపకారములకును సమస్త సత్యమునకును అపాత్రుడను, ఎట్లనగా నా చేతి కఱ్ఱతో మాత్రమే యీ యొర్దాను దాటితిని; ఇప్పుడు నేను రెండు గుంపులైతిని.

10. I am too small for all the lovingkindnesses and for all the faithfulness, which thou hast done unto thy servant, For with my staff, passed I over this Jordan, But, now, have I become two camps.

11. నా సహోదరుడైన ఏశావు చేతినుండి దయచేసి నన్ను తప్పించుము; అతడు వచ్చి పిల్లలతో తల్లిని, నన్ను చంపునేమో అని అతనికి భయపడుచున్నాను.

11. Deliver me I pray thee out of the hand of my brother out of the hand of Esau, for I, am afraid of him, lest he come in and smite mother as well as sons

12. నీవు నేను నీకు తోడై నిశ్చయముగా మేలు చేయుచు, విస్తారమగుటవలన లెక్కింపలేని సముద్రపు ఇసుకవలె నీ సంతానము విస్తరింపజేయుదునని సెలవిచ్చితివే అనెను.

12. But, thou thyself, saidst, I wilt deal well with thee. So will I make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which is not to be counted, for multitude.

13. అతడు అక్కడ ఆ రాత్రి గడిపి తాను సంపాదించిన దానిలో తన అన్నయైన ఏశావు కొరకు ఒక కానుకను

13. And he tarried there that night, and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother:

14. అనగా రెండువందల మేకలను ఇరువది మేక పోతులను రెండువందల గొఱ్ఱెలను ఇరువది పొట్టేళ్లను

14. She-goats, two hundred; And he-goats, twenty; Ewes, two hundred; And rams, twenty;

15. ముప్పది పాడి ఒంటెలను వాటి పిల్లలను నలుబది ఆవులను పది ఆబోతులను ఇరువది ఆడుగాడిదలను పది గాడిద పిల్లలను తీసికొని మందమందను వేరు వేరుగా

15. Milch camels, with their colts, thirty; Cows, forty; And bulls, ten; She-asses, twenty; And

16. తన దాసులచేతి కప్పగించి మీరు మంద మందకు నడుమ ఎడముంచి నాకంటె ముందుగా సాగిపొండని తన దాసులతో చెప్పెను.

16. And he gave them into the hand of his Servants, each drove by itself, and said unto his servants Pass over before me, and, a breathing-space, shall ye put betwixt drove and drove.

17. మరియు వారిలో మొదటివానితో నా సహోదరుడైన ఏశావు నిన్ను ఎదుర్కొని - నీవెవరివాడవు? ఎక్కడికి వెళ్లుచున్నావు? నీ ముందరనున్నవి యెవరివని నిన్ను అడిగినయెడల

17. And be commanded the first one saying: When Esau my brother shall fall in with thee, and shall ask thee, saying Whose art thou? and whither wouldst thou go? and to whom belong these before thee?

18. నీవు ఇవి నీ సేవకుడైన యాకోబువి, ఇది నా ప్రభువైన ఏశావుకొరకు పంపబడిన కానుక; అదిగో అతడు మా వెనుక వచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పుమని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను.

18. then shalt thou say, To thy servant Jacob: It is, a present, sent to my lord, to Esau; And behold he himself also is behind us,

19. అట్లతడు నేను ముందుగా పంపుచున్న కానుకవలన అతని సమాధానపరచిన తరువాత నేను అతని ముఖము చూచెదను; అప్పుడతడు ఒకవేళ నన్ను కటాక్షించుననుకొని మీరు ఏశావును చూచి

19. And he commanded the second also, and the third yea all that were going on behind the droves, saying, According to this word, shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.

20. మీరు - ఇదిగో నీ సేవకుడైన యాకోబు మా వెనుక వచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పవలెననియు రెండవవానికిని మూడవవానికిని మందల వెంబడి వెళ్లిన వారికందరికిని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను.

20. Then shall ye say, Also, lo! thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said: I must pacify him with the present that goeth on before me. And, after that, will I see his face: Peradventure he will accept me.

21. అతడు కానుకను తనకు ముందుగా పంపించి తాను గుంపులో ఆ రాత్రి నిలిచెను.

21. So the present passed over before him, whereas he himself tarried that night in the camp.

22. ఆ రాత్రి అతడు లేచి తన యిద్దరు భార్యలను తన యిద్దరు దాసీలను తన పదకొండుమంది పిల్లలను తీసికొని యబ్బోకు రేవు దాటిపోయెను.

22. And he arose in that night and took his two wives, and his two handmaids, and his eleven sons, and pressed over the ford of Jabbok.

23. యాకోబు వారిని తీసి కొని ఆ యేరు దాటించి తనకు కలిగినదంతయు పంపివేసెను.

23. So he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that which he had.

24. యాకోబు ఒక్కడు మిగిలి పోయెను; ఒక నరుడు తెల్లవారు వరకు అతనితో పెనుగులాడెను.

24. And Jacob was left alone, and there wrestled a man with him, until the uprisings of the dawn.

25. తాను అతని గెలువకుండుట చూచి తొడగూటిమీద అతనిని కొట్టెను. అప్పుడతడు ఆయనతో పెనుగులాడుటవలన యాకోబు తొడ గూడువసిలెను.

25. And when he saw, that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was put out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

26. ఆయన - తెల్లవారుచున్నది గనుక నన్ను పోనిమ్మనగా అతడు - నీవు నన్ను ఆశీర్వదించితేనే గాని నిన్ను పోనియ్యననెను.

26. Then said he Let me go, for uprisen hath the dawn. And he said: I will not let thee go, except thou have blessed me

27. ఆయన నీ పేరేమని యడుగగా అతడు - యాకోబు అని చెప్పెను.

27. Then he said unto him What is thy name? And he said Jacob.

28. అప్పుడు ఆయన నీవు దేవునితోను మనుష్యులతోను పోరాడి గెలిచితివి గనుక ఇకమీదట నీ పేరు ఇశ్రాయేలే గాని యాకోబు అనబడదని చెప్పెను.

28. Then he said Not Jacob, shall thy name be called any more, but Israel, For thou hast contended with God and with men and hast prevailed.

29. అప్పుడు యాకోబు - నీ పేరు దయచేసి తెలుపుమనెను. అందు కాయన - నీవు ఎందునిమిత్తము నా పేరు అడిగితివని చెప్పి అక్కడ అతని నాశీర్వదించెను.

29. Then asked Jacob and said, Do, I pray thee, tell me thy name! And he said Wherefore now, shouldest thou ask for my name? And he blessed him there,

30. యాకోబు - నేను ముఖా ముఖిగా దేవుని చూచితిని అయినను నా ప్రాణము దక్కినదని ఆ స్థలమునకు పెనూయేలు అను పేరు పెట్టెను.

30. So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; For I saw God face to face; and my soul was delivered,

31. అతడు పెనూయేలు నుండి సాగిపోయినప్పుడు సూర్యోదయమాయెను; అప్పుడతడు తొడకుంటుచు నడిచెను.

31. And the sun rose on him as soon as he had passed over Penuel, he, moreover was halting upon his thigh,

32. అందుచేత ఆయన యాకోబు తొడగూటి మీది తుంటినరము కొట్టినందున నేటివరకు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు తొడ గూటిమీదనున్న తుంటినరము తినరు.

32. For this cause, the sons of Israel eat not of the nerve of the large hip-sinew, which is by the hollow of the thigh, until this day, because he touched the hollow of the thigh of Jacob, in the nerve of the hip-sinew.
