1. యాకోబు తన త్రోవను వెళ్లుచుండగా దేవదూతలు అతనిని ఎదుర్కొనిరి.

1. And Jacob went his way. Angels of God met him.

2. యాకోబు వారిని చూచి - ఇది దేవుని సేన అని చెప్పి ఆ చోటికి మహనయీము అను పేరు పెట్టెను.

2. When Jacob saw them he said, 'Oh! God's Camp!' And he named the place Mahanaim (Campground).

3. యాకోబు ఎదోము దేశమున, అనగా శేయీరు దేశముననున్న తన సహోదరుడైన ఏశావునొద్దకు దూతలను తనకు ముందుగా పంపి

3. Then Jacob sent messengers on ahead to his brother Esau in the land of Seir in Edom.

4. మీరు నా ప్రభువైన ఏశావుతో ఇంతవరకు నేను లాబానునొద్ద నివసించి యుంటిని;

4. He instructed them: 'Tell my master Esau this, 'A message from your servant Jacob: I've been staying with Laban and couldn't get away until now.

5. నాకు పశువులు గాడిదలు మందలు దాసదాసీజనమును కలరు; నీ కటాక్షము నాయందు కలుగునట్లుగా నా ప్రభువునకిది తెలియచేయనంపితినని నీ సేవకుడైన యాకోబు అనెనని చెప్పుడని వారి కాజ్ఞాపించెను.

5. I've acquired cattle and donkeys and sheep; also men and women servants. I'm telling you all this, my master, hoping for your approval.''

6. ఆ దూతలు యాకోబు నొద్దకు తిరిగివచ్చి - మేము నీ సహోదరుడైన ఏశావునొద్దకు వెళ్లితివిు; అతడు నాలుగువందల మందితో నిన్ను ఎదుర్కొన వచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పగా

6. The messengers came back to Jacob and said, 'We talked to your brother Esau and he's on his way to meet you. But he has four hundred men with him.'

7. యాకోబు మిక్కిలి భయపడి తొందరపడి

7. Jacob was scared. Very scared. Panicked, he divided his people, sheep, cattle, and camels into two camps.

8. ఏశావు ఒక గుంపు మీదికి వచ్చి దాని హతము చేసినయెడల మిగిలిన గుంపు తప్పించుకొనిపోవుననుకొని, తనతోనున్న జనులను మందలను పశువులను ఒంటెలను రెండు గుంపులుగా విభాగించెను.

8. He thought, 'If Esau comes on the first camp and attacks it, the other camp has a chance to get away.'

9. అప్పుడు యాకోబు - నా తండ్రియైన అబ్రాహాము దేవా, నా తండ్రియైన ఇస్సాకు దేవా, నీ దేశమునకు నీ బంధువుల యొద్దకు తిరిగి వెళ్లుము, నీకు మేలు చేసెదనని నాతో చెప్పిన యెహోవా,

9. And then Jacob prayed, 'God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, GOD who told me, 'Go back to your parents' homeland and I'll treat you well.'

10. నీవు నీ సేవకునికి చేసిన సమస్తమైన ఉపకారములకును సమస్త సత్యమునకును అపాత్రుడను, ఎట్లనగా నా చేతి కఱ్ఱతో మాత్రమే యీ యొర్దాను దాటితిని; ఇప్పుడు నేను రెండు గుంపులైతిని.

10. I don't deserve all the love and loyalty you've shown me. When I left here and crossed the Jordan I only had the clothes on my back, and now look at me--two camps!

11. నా సహోదరుడైన ఏశావు చేతినుండి దయచేసి నన్ను తప్పించుము; అతడు వచ్చి పిల్లలతో తల్లిని, నన్ను చంపునేమో అని అతనికి భయపడుచున్నాను.

11. Save me, please, from the violence of my brother, my angry brother! I'm afraid he'll come and attack us all, me, the mothers and the children.

12. నీవు నేను నీకు తోడై నిశ్చయముగా మేలు చేయుచు, విస్తారమగుటవలన లెక్కింపలేని సముద్రపు ఇసుకవలె నీ సంతానము విస్తరింపజేయుదునని సెలవిచ్చితివే అనెను.

12. You yourself said, 'I will treat you well; I'll make your descendants like the sands of the sea, far too many to count.''

13. He slept the night there. Then he prepared a present for his brother Esau from his possessions:

14. two hundred female goats, twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,

15. ముప్పది పాడి ఒంటెలను వాటి పిల్లలను నలుబది ఆవులను పది ఆబోతులను ఇరువది ఆడుగాడిదలను పది గాడిద పిల్లలను తీసికొని మందమందను వేరు వేరుగా

15. thirty camels with their nursing young, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.

16. తన దాసులచేతి కప్పగించి మీరు మంద మందకు నడుమ ఎడముంచి నాకంటె ముందుగా సాగిపొండని తన దాసులతో చెప్పెను.

16. He put a servant in charge of each herd and said, 'Go ahead of me and keep a healthy space between each herd.'

17. మరియు వారిలో మొదటివానితో నా సహోదరుడైన ఏశావు నిన్ను ఎదుర్కొని - నీవెవరివాడవు? ఎక్కడికి వెళ్లుచున్నావు? నీ ముందరనున్నవి యెవరివని నిన్ను అడిగినయెడల

17. Then he instructed the first one out: 'When my brother Esau comes close and asks, 'Who is your master? Where are you going? Who owns these?'--

18. answer him like this, 'Your servant Jacob. They are a gift to my master Esau. He's on his way.''

19. అట్లతడు నేను ముందుగా పంపుచున్న కానుకవలన అతని సమాధానపరచిన తరువాత నేను అతని ముఖము చూచెదను; అప్పుడతడు ఒకవేళ నన్ను కటాక్షించుననుకొని మీరు ఏశావును చూచి

19. He gave the same instructions to the second servant and to the third--to each in turn as they set out with their herds:

20. మీరు - ఇదిగో నీ సేవకుడైన యాకోబు మా వెనుక వచ్చుచున్నాడని చెప్పవలెననియు రెండవవానికిని మూడవవానికిని మందల వెంబడి వెళ్లిన వారికందరికిని ఆజ్ఞాపించెను.

20. 'Say 'Your servant Jacob is on his way behind us.'' He thought, 'I will soften him up with the succession of gifts. Then when he sees me face-to-face, maybe he'll be glad to welcome me.'

21. అతడు కానుకను తనకు ముందుగా పంపించి తాను గుంపులో ఆ రాత్రి నిలిచెను.

21. So his gifts went before him while he settled down for the night in the camp.

22. ఆ రాత్రి అతడు లేచి తన యిద్దరు భార్యలను తన యిద్దరు దాసీలను తన పదకొండుమంది పిల్లలను తీసికొని యబ్బోకు రేవు దాటిపోయెను.

22. But during the night he got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants, and his eleven children and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.

23. యాకోబు వారిని తీసి కొని ఆ యేరు దాటించి తనకు కలిగినదంతయు పంపివేసెను.

23. He got them safely across the brook along with all his possessions.

24. యాకోబు ఒక్కడు మిగిలి పోయెను; ఒక నరుడు తెల్లవారు వరకు అతనితో పెనుగులాడెను.

24. But Jacob stayed behind by himself, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.

25. తాను అతని గెలువకుండుట చూచి తొడగూటిమీద అతనిని కొట్టెను. అప్పుడతడు ఆయనతో పెనుగులాడుటవలన యాకోబు తొడ గూడువసిలెను.

25. When the man saw that he couldn't get the best of Jacob as they wrestled, he deliberately threw Jacob's hip out of joint.

26. ఆయన - తెల్లవారుచున్నది గనుక నన్ను పోనిమ్మనగా అతడు - నీవు నన్ను ఆశీర్వదించితేనే గాని నిన్ను పోనియ్యననెను.

26. The man said, 'Let me go; it's daybreak.' Jacob said, 'I'm not letting you go 'til you bless me.'

27. ఆయన నీ పేరేమని యడుగగా అతడు - యాకోబు అని చెప్పెను.

27. The man said, 'What's your name?' He answered, 'Jacob.'

28. అప్పుడు ఆయన నీవు దేవునితోను మనుష్యులతోను పోరాడి గెలిచితివి గనుక ఇకమీదట నీ పేరు ఇశ్రాయేలే గాని యాకోబు అనబడదని చెప్పెను.

28. The man said, 'But no longer. Your name is no longer Jacob. From now on it's Israel (God-Wrestler); you've wrestled with God and you've come through.'

29. అప్పుడు యాకోబు - నీ పేరు దయచేసి తెలుపుమనెను. అందు కాయన - నీవు ఎందునిమిత్తము నా పేరు అడిగితివని చెప్పి అక్కడ అతని నాశీర్వదించెను.

29. Jacob asked, 'And what's your name?' The man said, 'Why do you want to know my name?' And then, right then and there, he blessed him.

30. యాకోబు - నేను ముఖా ముఖిగా దేవుని చూచితిని అయినను నా ప్రాణము దక్కినదని ఆ స్థలమునకు పెనూయేలు అను పేరు పెట్టెను.

30. Jacob named the place Peniel (God's Face) because, he said, 'I saw God face-to-face and lived to tell the story!'

31. అతడు పెనూయేలు నుండి సాగిపోయినప్పుడు సూర్యోదయమాయెను; అప్పుడతడు తొడకుంటుచు నడిచెను.

31. The sun came up as he left Peniel, limping because of his hip.

32. అందుచేత ఆయన యాకోబు తొడగూటి మీది తుంటినరము కొట్టినందున నేటివరకు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు తొడ గూటిమీదనున్న తుంటినరము తినరు.

32. (This is why Israelites to this day don't eat the hip muscle; because Jacob's hip was thrown out of joint.)
